Introduction

TerraQuake ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use our earthquake visualization and notification app ("the app").

Information We Collect

We believe in data minimization and only collect what is necessary for the app to function.

• Information You Provide

  • Settings: We store your preferences locally on your device using UserDefaults. This includes your choice of default view (3D Globe or 2D Map), preferred distance units, the radius for your local filter, and your notification preferences.

• Information Automatically Collected

  • Location Data: To provide the "Local" earthquake filter, the app requests your GPS coordinates. This location check happens periodically when the app is open or during background refresh cycles if notifications are enabled. We do not track or store a history of your location.

  • Technical & Usage Data: We may collect anonymous information about your device model, iOS version, and feature usage to troubleshoot bugs and improve the app's functionality. This data is not personally identifiable.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

• Display real-time earthquake data on the globe and map.

• Provide a personalized "Local" earthquake feed based on your current location.

• Send you notifications for significant earthquakes, if you have enabled them.

• Store your settings and preferences on your device.

• Improve the app's functionality and user experience.

Data Storage and Security

Your privacy is a primary design principle of TerraQuake.

• Local Storage: All your settings are stored exclusively on your device.

• No Servers: For the current version of the app, we do not use our own servers to store any of your personal data. Your information stays on your phone.

Data Sharing

We do NOT share, sell, or rent your personal information to third parties.

• Data Sources: The app retrieves public, non-personal earthquake data from official government sources like the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Location Data

Your location is only used to calculate distances and filter for local seismic events.

• Location data is requested periodically and is not collected continuously.

• You can disable location access for TerraQuake at any time in your device's iOS Settings. Doing so will disable the "Local" filter feature.

Subscription and Payment (Future Feature)

Should we offer premium subscriptions in a future version of the app, management of those subscriptions will be handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We will not collect, store, or have access to your payment information. All such transactions will be subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and modify your settings within the app.

• Delete all of your stored settings by deleting the app from your device.

• Control location sharing through your device's iOS Settings.

Data Retention

Your settings data is retained locally on your device until you delete the app.

Children's Privacy

TerraQuake is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on our website and, if possible, through an in-app notification.
