Learn how to explore earthquake activity, use dashboard filters, browse regions, and configure TerraQuake.

TerraQuake is a window into global seismic activity. Use this guide to get the most from its dashboard, exploration tools, and settings.

Dashboard

The dashboard gives you a quick visual overview of global seismic activity.

3D globe and 2D map

Use the switcher at the top of the screen to move between two views:

  • 3D globeExplore earthquakes in 3D using standard pan, zoom, and rotation gestures
  • 2D mapUse a detailed, top-down map view

Filter bar

Control which earthquakes appear on the main screen:

  • Magnitude filterShow earthquakes above a selected magnitude, such as M1.0+, M2.5+, or M4.5+
  • Time filterLimit results to the last hour, 6 hours, or 24 hours

Earthquake list

The list shows details for the earthquakes currently displayed on the globe or map.

  • Global or LocalSwitch between worldwide events and events near your current location
  • Sort orderSort by Most Recent or Largest

Interacting with the globe and map

  • Tap a markerZoom in and see a detailed annotation for an earthquake
  • See earthquake detailsTap an earthquake in the list to zoom the view and open its information sheet
  • Your locationA pulsating blue pin shows your current location for context
  • Stop the spinTap the globe to stop its ambient rotation and make marker selection easier
  • Reset the viewWhen zoomed in, use Reset to return to the global view and restart the spin

Explore

The Explore tab provides more in-depth analysis of recent earthquake data.

Browse earthquake data

  • Largest earthquakesBrowse a full list that respects your dashboard filters, or view a ranked Top 10 of the most powerful recent earthquakes
  • By regionBrowse recent earthquakes grouped by country or US state, and filter for specific regions

Tailor TerraQuake to your preferences.

Customize your experience

  • Default viewChoose the 3D globe or 2D map as your starting view
  • Distance unitsChoose kilometers or miles
  • Local search radiusSet the search radius used by the Local filter
  • NotificationsEnable and configure notifications for significant earthquakes

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

  • Why don’t I see every Explore earthquake on the dashboard?The dashboard is designed as a clean, fast overview and respects the magnitude and time filters selected in the filter bar. Explore provides the more comprehensive data browser.
  • How often is the data updated?TerraQuake fetches the latest data when you launch the app and whenever you use pull-to-refresh on a list.
  • Is my location data stored?No. Your location is used on your device to calculate distances for the Local filter. Andersson Consulting does not track or store your location history.
